Biography:
Sandra Castillo, RN, MA, EdD
Dr. Sandra Castillo received her Associate
degree in Nursing from Rio Hondo Community College in Whittier,
California and later her Bachelor’s degree in Nursing
from California State University, Los Angeles. She began teaching
at Contra Costa College in the Associate Degree Nursing in1983
after working ten years as a registered nurse in the acute
care setting. While teaching in nursing program Dr. Castillo
returned to school and obtained a Master’s degree in
Hispanic Studies. Dr. Castillo believes in lifelong learning
and, therefore, continued her education, receiving her Doctorate
degree in Healthcare Education from Nova Southeastern University
in 1998. Her dissertation led to the publication of her first
book, Strategies, Techniques, and Approaches to Thinking.
Her book provides practical strategies for teaching and applying
critical thinking skills to nursing students. She has also
co-authored a CD titled Calculating Drug Dosages
that provides an interactive approach to learning nursing
math.
