Recently the Coalition for Nursing
Careers in California (CNCC) participated as an exhibitor at
the 25th Annual National Leadership Conference sponsored by
the Healthcare Occupations Students of America (HOSA). The conference,
a five-day event held in Anaheim California, gave sponsors and
exhibitors an opportunity to network with nearly 5,000 future
health care leaders (students), career counselors and educators.
"The number of students in the educational
pipeline is not adequate to meet the projected demand for
the vast number of new nurses over the next decade,"
says Linda D. Gregory, CNCC's newly appointed Manager.
"HOSA is not just patching the leaks. It is helping to
rebuild a pipeline that is stronger and flows in both directions."
The conference is the largest gathering
of health occupation students, educators and exhibitors under
one roof. CNCC could not have asked for a more ideal opportunity
to have a presence. "Our web site, chooseNursing.com,
and our Ambassador
for Nursing Program were both big hits," said Linda.
We received nothing but positive feedback from the counselors
and educators about the site and downloadable presentation
tools. The HOSA mantra was "Aspire to Inspire,"
and they did. I am committed now more than ever to inspire
the young minds of tomorrow's nurses. These kids, with their
hearts and minds so open and so fresh, are our future
nurses. I feel proud to be part of paving their way."
HOSA is a student organization committed
to promoting career opportunities in the health care industry
and enhancing the delivery of quality health care to all people.
Its members include secondary, post-secondary and collegiate
students pursuing careers in the health professions, as well
as teachers, health care professionals and alumni.
